The idea of the Trilogy Disability Foundation came to light by former Disability Support Worker and current Co-Founder of Trilogy Disability Services, Cathy Deblaere. Having worked as an Enrolled Nurse and Support Worker for health and disability in Australia and the UK, as well as at FACS and across multiple care homes, Cathy draws from 30 years of experience and holds extensive knowledge of the industry. Cathy and her Co-Director Nicole (Nicki) opened Trilogy Disability Services with their first property in March 2017, specialising in children’s respite care. Six years later with more than 20 properties located on both the Central Coast and upper North Shore, Trilogy Disability Services is still growing. Cathy is a mother to four children who are all involved in the family business of Trilogy and is a nan to six grandchildren. Through her passion for her career in helping others and her experience, Cathy was able to identify significant gaps in welfare management and support, particularly in the Central Coast region and thus began the idea of a Foundation to fill those gaps and broaden the scope of support for vulnerable groups in the community.

Her work with young people with disabilities at the Collaroy Hospital was the catalyst for her active involvement in all aspects of disabilities and she has been present throughout the various changes happening within the disability sector. Starting by helping set up residential homes for people who transition out of permanent hospital care into smaller, person-centered care units, Nicole felt privileged and proud to watch and assist clients to integrate within the community and watch some move on to less supported accommodation needing only drop-in care. We are passionate about supporting youth at risk to “break the cycle” of disadvantage, unemployment and poverty. As an Educational Design Specialist in the Community Services Sector, I am extremely proud of the youth and employment projects I have delivered over the years. Through these projects, we have celebrated long-term educational and employment outcomes for many people whose needs were considered “too complex” for other providers. I feel honoured to work alongside the Trilogy Youth Workers as they apply their knowledge and experience guiding disadvantaged young people to a better future. They never cease to amaze me with what they can achieve in very challenging circumstances!”

Since a young age I have always felt a genuine desire to help others and found an incredible sense of fulfilment and personal satisfaction by doing so. Working in youth gifts me the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and the community, by fostering personal growth and development, building confidence, developing skills and overcoming challenges. I truly believe that each young person has immense potential, and with the right guidance and support they can achieve incredible feats. Being part of that transformation is both an honour and a privilege. I am deeply inspired by the Trilogy Foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of young people. Their values and goals align with my own, and I am confident that I can make a real difference.
